We own a summer home. We are here now and since we arrived, there is a horrible skunk odor ONLY at night and limited to two rooms in the basement (underneath the deck). We have seen a skunk in our yard and walking up to the deck area in the morning. We have a 'local guy' who is going to try and trap (and shoot) the skunk/skunks ... but we are definitely interested in your services. Randi M.

We have a skunk living under our backyard deck. It was under our home and it sprayed a few months ago. We flushed it out of the burrow form under the foundation, but we still smell it under our 750 sq.ft. deck. We have since put concrete in the den under the foundation and it found a weak spot and had its young in the new den. We flushed it out again and watched as it went back 6 times to retrieve its young from the den. After that, making sure it was gone, we filled the den in with concrete again. It has not come back to the foundation but, is still under our deck somewhere we smell it everyday but cannot locate it. The smell is only outside now, but we cannot enjoy our porch. We are driven crazy with this skunk and are out of ideas. We know a skunk will not go into a live cage trap. We tried everything. We even put rat bait chunks under the deck, and they have been eaten. We also get raccoon and opossum under there. Yes it is a great place to hide! We are willing to do anything ourselves, but besides ripping out the deck we don't know what else we can do. And if we get rid of it, how can we keep it from coming back in the future? Sheri T.

I have a skunk in the duct work under my house. Any suggestions on how to get it out? I've set a live trap attached to one of the ducts, and the little brat keeps getting the bait but doesn't trip the mechanism to make it trap him. The one time it did trip, there was a brick that had fallen in the way and the trap didn’t lock shut. I have tried dropping flash lights down in the vents with ammonia soaked rags to help run him out, but that doesn’t seem to be working either. It's been in there for about 2 weeks, obviously we've apparently been feeding it. Can you please give me any other advice to get it out? It's decided to spray just about every time we walk across the floor it seams. The smell is making me sick as well as my small children. Shanda P.

Mice are Making Themselves at Home in Fluvanna County

Fluvanna County homeowners want to get rid of mice.

I have a serious Mouse problem. I hear mice in the attic not sure how many but sounds like one or 2 based on the sounds. I have noticed a burrow under my fireplace on the exterior and a hole that has not been caulked and there are dropping around the hole. I can't say how long this has been going on but have just recently noticed the sounds in the attic. Zach D.

We have a mouse/mice living in our garage. We found this out when my mom opened her old sewing machine drawer, and found a whole bunch of yarn made up in a bundle. We also have corn and bird seed that we feed to squirrels and birds outside on a post. And we have found cracked seeds all over in different places in our garage. My mom also saw this mouse once before running by on the garage floor. We would like to clean out our garage "safely," but we're not sure if it's safe our not. We have heard about hantavirus (hope I spelled that right?). We don't really want to kill the mouse either, we just want to let it out into its natural environment. Is there anybody or anything you could recommend doing? And, do "all" mice carry the virus that's dangerous? Randy L.

We discovered mouse droppings this week on our cutting board in our kitchen as well as under our sink and in a drawer stored with dishtowels. My wife heard them in the wall behind our dishwasher today when she started it. She is understandably very upset and says it is get rid of the mice or start missing her. Gerry V.
